How to Add a MobileMe Account to Apple Mail

When Apple decided to change the name of .Mac, a suite of utility software, to MobileMe, subscribers received several new benefits. One of these included a new email address with a "@me.com" suffix. This new email account comes with up to 20 gigabytes of storage and a solid Web application to view messages. However, dedicated Mac users will obviously want to check their MobileMe mail in the Apple Mail program. Here's how to add a MobileMe account in Apple Mail and configure the correct settings.

      Open the Apple Mail program by clicking the "Mail" icon on the dock.

      Click on "Mail" in the top menu bar and select "Preferences."

      Go to the "Accounts" tab in the Preferences menu.

      Click the small plus sign in the lower left-hand corner of the window to start the process of adding a new mail account.

      In the pop-up window, enter your full name, your MobileMe email address (username@me.com) and your MobileMe account password in the appropriate fields.

      Make sure that the "Automatically set up account" check box is checked and then click "Create." The Mail application will automatically connect to the MobileMe mail servers and automatically configure the correct settings for your new account.

      Close out of the Preferences window. Your MobileMe account will now appear in the list of active accounts. Your MobileMe messages should begin loading automatically.
