Disable Sounds on MSN Messenger

MSN Messenger is a great application, but the little IM noises it makes can get quite annoying, especially if you are trying to listen to music or watching YouTube. Here's the fastest way to disable the sounds so you can IM in peace.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • MSN Messenger
  1. Step 1

Open MSN messenger and select the "Menu" tab button.

  2. Step 2

Select "Tools" from the submenu and then scroll all the way down until you see an "Options" menu, then select it.

  3. Step 3

After the options menu pops up, select the "Alerts and Sounds" option on the left side of the list.

  4. Step 4

Ignore the "Alerts" options at the top and uncheck all of the boxes under the sounds heading. This will disable all the sounds, and the MSN messenger will chirp no more.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can also customize sounds for your messenger by going to the same place and highlight the various sound types and locating the sound files on your computer.
