How to Grow Hydroponic Grass Fodder

Grass fodder is used as animal feed. Various varieties of grass fodder include, but are not limited to, false oat grass, Bermuda grass, heath grass and rye grass. Growing grass fodder hydroponically is fast becoming popular in drought prone areas. although growing hydroponic grass fodder can require a large investment in a commercial hydroponic greenhouse. However, you can grow grass hydroponically in your home or greenhouse without a substantial investment.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Plastic growing trays with lids
  • Water
  • Natural light
  • 8 oz. grass seed
  • Bowl
  • Colander
  • Thick towel
  • Paper towel
  • Spray bottle
  1. Step 1

    Pour seeds into a bowl and cover them with 1 inch of water.

  2. Step 2

    Soak the grass seeds for at least 12 hours.

  3. Step 3

    Drain the seeds in a colander.

  4. Step 4

    Place a damp cloth over the seeds for 24 hours. Continually mist with a water bottle to ensure the seeds stay damp.

  5. Step 5

    Place a damp paper towel on the bottom of the growing tray.

  6. Step 6

    Add the seeds to the tray, sprout side up.

  7. Step 7

    Mist the seeds, then cover the container with the tray.

  8. Step 8

    Continue to mist the sprouts daily. The plants will be ready to harvest in 8 to 10 days.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure to keep the seeds moist at all times.
  • Do not place newly sprouted seeds in direct sunlight.
