How to Find Child Safety Car Seat Inspection Stations or Seminars

Car safety seats for children save lives each and every day. Simply having a car seat, however, is not enough. You must make certain that your car seat has been installed properly. Carefully follow the instructions booklet included with your car seat as well as your automobile's user guide for child safety seats. After you have installed the seat, you should have it tested to ensure you have not made any errors in installation.

  1. Step 1

    Install your infant car seat in your automobile several weeks before your new baby is due to be born. The hospital will require you to have a car seat for your newborn before you are able to leave the hospital. If you cannot afford a car seat, hospitals can often rent you a safety seat.

  2. Step 2

    Go to NHTSA's Child Safety Seat Inspection Locator's website to search for any child safety seat inspection stations in your local area. Most towns and cities have inspection locations nearby. Several inspection centers might be available depending upon the size of your city or town.

  3. Step 3

    Stop by a local state police station or fire company if you are unable to locate an official child safety seat inspection center. The inspection stations are often housed in these locations. therwise, a police office or firefighter, should be able to assist you in locating an inspection center.

  4. Step 4

    Ask your Obstetrician’s office where you can have your car seat checked for proper installation. Some hospitals actually offer inspection officials within the hospital. New parent courses provided by hospitals will sometimes also teach you to properly install a car seat and perform an inspection for you.

  5. Step 5

    Call your health insurance company to inquire about safety seminars for expectant parents. Many insurance companies will actually reward you with a free car seat for attending childcare classes and/or safety seminars for new parents and for having your car seat tested for safety.
