Use the colorful packaging from popular products. For example, use a small empty milk carton. Remember to wash and dry befor use. Cut off the tops. For the handle, braid empty straw wrappers around a wire and staple to the inside of the basket. Fill with naturally malted milk balls. Or use empty lemon Jell-o packages, cutting off one of the large sides. Make strips from the side you cut off; tape together with invisible tape, and tape onto the basket. Tie yellow ribbons on the top for a bow, and fill with lemon drops.

Try Styrofoam cups for party baskets children can make themselves. Give kids little circle stickers and let them turn the cups into polka dot baskets, include stickers and make a handle from pipe cleaners. Fill with coordinated color lollipops.

Save plastic berry baskets. Use shiny ribbons to thread in and out of the openings until you have a little “woven” basket. Use ribbon colors coordinated with the party decorations. Fill with berry-flavored candies; those wrapped to look like strawberries would be perfect. See a link at the end of this article for a place to buy these.

Make original baskets using the pattern provided with this article. Trace the pattern onto poster board and cut out. Using the poster board piece, cut out two more pieces. Use gift-wrapping paper and cut the pieces the exact same size. For example, for a little girl’s birthday party, you might use a small-patterned flowered paper. Or for a wedding shower, you might choose gold foil gift-wrap paper. Glue the gift-wrap paper to both sides of the poster board piece.

Let dry thoroughly and then fold up the dotted lines and apply glue to the two tabs. Use a contrasting strip of poster board for the handle, which will be stapled inside the basket. You might want to attach something “extra” to the top of the handle. For example, you might clip on a couple of barrettes for a little girl's party, or a small silk rose for a wedding shower basket. Fill with pastel mints.

Tips & Warnings
Use a paper shredder to produce material to line the baskets if they are too large for the amount of candy you want to add.
Test the sturdiness of your baskets. Make sure it can be lifted by the handle when full.
