How to Do a Step Brush Heel in Tap Dancing
The step brush heel step in tap dancing is a backward moving step. Once you get the steps down, you can do them quicker and quicker. Remember that striking the ball of your foot backward, in this case, is considered a brush.
Instructions

Step, on the ball of your right foot, to the back on the count of “1.”

Brush back on your left foot on the count of “and.” You foot remains in the air. Do not step down.

Drop your right heel on the count of “2.”

Step back on your left foot on the ball on the count of “3.”

Brush back on your right foot on the count of “and.”

Drop your left heel on the count of “4.”

Continue doing the step moving backward.

Tips & Warnings
When you’re instructed to drop the heel of the foot that you’re standing on that requires that you stand on the ball of your foot so you are able to drop your heel. If you're standing flat-footed you’ll have to lift up the heel and drop it. Most tap dancing is done on the balls of your feet.
