How to Assemble a Nebulizer Treatment

Asthmatics sometimes use a machine--the nebulizer--that filters oxygen through a piping system in order to regulate inhalation of their medications, especially during or after an attack, or when suffering from respiratory-related illnesses. The piping that is attached to the nebulizer is often assembled by the patient himself, and below are instructions on how to do so.

Instructions

1. Attach the long, thin tube into the nebulizer. Attach it on the protruding base where the air is released in a compressed stream. Use your thumb to check that the oxygen is coming out of the other side of the tube without any obstruction.

2. Unscrew the cylinder-shaped container, keeping hold of the half that plugs into the other side of the long tube. Pour the medicines (usually albuterol sulfate) into this half of the cylinder.

3. Screw the top half of the cylinder back on, making sure to keep the cylinder upright in order to avoid spilling any medicine.

4. Attach the small piece that attaches to the top of the cylinder with a perpendicular set of wider, circular openings.

5. Affix the mouthpiece to half of the top piece, and the long, accordion tube to the other half.

6. Attach the tube connected to the nebulizer to the completed treatment. Turn on the nebulizer and wait for a fog-like mist to come out of the mouthpiece and the end of the pipe. The treatment is now ready to be taken.
