How to Apply Magnet Paint
Magnetic or magnet paint is a water-based primer paint that can turn any surface into a magnetic surface. If your room feels cluttered, try applying some magnetic paint to the wall and purchasing some small magnets. Instead of stacks of papers cluttering every surface, you can hang your spare paperwork on the wall and out of the way. Magnetic surfaces are great for children's bedrooms, playrooms or kitchen surfaces. If your child has a grade to hang on the wall, why not hang it in the living room instead of on the refrigerator? Magnetic paint is also a good solution to avoiding getting tack, nail and pin marks in your walls.

1
Purchase the magnetic paint of your choice at a local hardware or craft store. See the Resources section below for locations to buy magnetic paint near you.

2
Open the magnetic paint and stir for at least ten minutes. This can be a good activity for your child while you explain how to apply the magnetic paint. Take turns stirring so the task doesn't seem so daunting. The stirring ensures that the magnetic materials are thoroughly mixed throughout the paint before you apply it to your wall.

Apply two to three coats of magnetic paint, allowing the wall to dry thoroughly in between coats. This may take an entire day or a few days to complete. Do not reapply if the paint is still tacky.

4
Apply a top coat to your magnetic paint. Your topcoat can be any household paint that you would like to put on your wall or flat surface, in any color you'd like. Apply several coats, until you can no longer see the magnetic paint underneath. Let the topcoat dry thoroughly in between coat applications.

When your magnetic surface has thoroughly dried, try placing a few magnets on its surface. Lightweight magnets will adhere better than heavy materials. Enjoy sticking metal objects to your wall, like paperclips. You now have a magnetic wall in your home.
