Get there early. Parking is hard to find during the Mardi Gras parade, since most of the downtown area is closed off for the parade and festivities. You will need to get there early to find a parking spot and a place to view the parade.

4
Be prepared to catch things. During the parade different things are thrown out. Most of the throwing consists of colorful Mardi Gras beads, but you can always retrieve dubloons and moon pies. Be ready to wear a ton of beads around your neck on the way home.

5
Keep children in mind. If you bring your children keep them safe by making sure they are behind the designated line. If you do not have children, keep the other children in mind when catching beads so that you do not step on any little toes.
-
6
Keep your pets leashed. Having your pet at the parade isn’t the most ideal situation, but pets are welcome to come. If you do bring your dog, make sure that it is leashed and not prone to biting. The noise from the crowds and floats can scare your pet, so if you do decide to bring a dog, be sure it does not mind loud noises and isn’t a dog that tends to snap at people. Remember, people will want to pet your dog, including children.
