Step 1
Locate Georgia Chihuahua rescue organizations. There are several including the Chihuahua Rescue of Georgia and Chihuahua Rescue and Transport. Contact a rescue organization online (See Resources) or speak with your local Humane Society. The Humane Society will connect you to Chihuahua rescue organizations near you or notify you when they have a Chihuahua available for adoption.

Step 2
Complete the rescue application. Most Chihuahua rescue organizations require you to answer an extensive questionnaire before you adopt a dog from them. Be prepared to answer questions about your home, family, other pets, your financial situation, your past experiences with dogs and your reasons for adopting a Chihuahua. Provide the organization with a list of references that include personal references, veterinarian references and groomer references. Schedule a home visit or face-to-face interview if the rescue organization requires it.

Step 3
Pay the adoption fee. Many Chihuahua rescue organizations require you to cover the costs that your dog incurs while in their care. This typically includes the cost of veterinarian visits, food, care supplies and micro-chipping. Make an additional donation to the organization if you wish to help support their continued work.

Step 4
Prepare for the arrival of your Chihuahua. Your home likely poses many hazards to a Chihuahua. Dog-proof your home to ensure that your pet is safe. Move all poisonous plants, chemicals, cleaning products, medicines and insecticides out of your dog's reach. Examine your fence to make sure that is is completely secure. Keep in mind that Chihuahuas can fit through very tiny openings. Unplug any electrical cords that your dog has access to, to prevent chewing accidents. Step 5
Know how to care for your Chihuahua. Chihuahuas have many unique characteristics and needs. Consult with your veterinarian about how to prevent common Chihuahua health problems such as dry skin, eye issues and dental problems.
