Make a Patchwork Pet Bed

Pets are an important part of the family. That’s why it is so important to make a place for them in your home. Dogs and cats both love having a comfy place to sleep that they can call their own. Making them a pet bed is a way to represent their place in your home. To avoid letting these beds become an eyesore, you can make ones that fit in with your design motif. Patchwork pet beds are a great way to make your pet an attractive and comfy place to rest his head, while using scrap fabric.

Instructions

    • 1

Fold your cotton lining material in half. This will be used as the template to create your bed.

    • 2

Measure out the size of the circles you want to create for your bed. Cut out these circles on the doubled over lining so you have two identical circles.

    • 3

Cut out your pieces of varying fabrics to match the shape of your cotton lining circles. You can cut out varying sizes of fabric as desired for your patchwork effect, but the easiest way to match your circle lining is to simply cut the circle in half horizontally and then again vertically. This will give you four pieces of fabric that you can arrange in your chosen patchwork design.

    • 4

Stitch your fabric to your cotton lining circles piece by piece.

    • 5

Cut another piece of lining. This piece of lining will match the length of the perimeter of your circles and be about 4½” tall.

    • 6

Cut a piece of fabric the same length and width as your cotton lining. This is your side piece.

    • 7

Turn your fabric print side down and stitch your side piece along the length of one of your circles.

    • 8

Stitch on the second circle to create the bottom of your pet bed. Leave an opening to fill with batting.

    • 9

Turn your pet bed right side out and stuff full with batting. Use as much batting as you can so your pet bed will retain its shape even when your furry friends jump all over it.

    • 10

Sew your opening closed by hand or sewing machine.
