You do not have to feel limited to the shower curtain options that are offered in home décor and department stores. Instead, you can use some basic sewing skills and inexpensive fabric to create a shower curtain of your own. Making your own shower curtain gives you the freedom to customize the shower curtain to your individual design motif and needs. Follow this guide to creating a patchwork shower curtain that will give your shower curtain a cool collage feel.

For the most basic shower curtain design, cut down the middle of the fold so you have 6 separate pieces. If you prefer, you can cut the fabric into smaller pieces, or even have a mix and match of fabric sizes in the varying prints. This will just take some extra sewing and arranging in the next steps.

  3. Step 3

Lay out the shower curtain on a flat surface and arrange the pieces in the patchwork pattern of your choice.

  4. Step 4

Turn the fabrics over and stitch them together, piece by piece, until the shower curtain takes the desired shape and pattern.

  5. Step 5

Attach the shower curtain to the vinyl shower curtain by stitching along the edges of the curtain. For a cleaner hem, fold the excess fabric under and stitch it to the top of the vinyl curtain.

  6. Step 6

Follow the holes in the top of the vinyl shower curtain to create the holes in your fabric shower curtain. If desired, add a finishing stitch inside each hole to prevent fraying, or use a grommet technique.
