Adopting a Lab in Los Angeles is one of the easiest (and most fun) things you can undertake. It's a big city, with many outlying areas, and the Labrador is the most popular breed in America. So you're going to find a large amount of animals out there, at a variety of ages, to check out and choose from. Black Labs, even purebreds, are usually the last to be adopted out of shelters because of their size and color, so this is really the greatest opportunity to save a life and find a great dog just waiting for you at a city or county shelter. There are private rescue groups where the dogs are pre-screened, and you know what you're getting. Or you can just check out the classifieds, and find a variety of Labs, some new, some used! Get out there and fetch your new best friend.

1
Check Craig's List. This is a great place to find regular people who are listing their animals for reasonable adoption fees (which they sometimes will waive). It's a forever changing marketplace, and you will find puppies to young dogs to senior Labs who need homes.
-
2
Check Pet Harbor.com. Do a Lab search, in the color and gender Lab you are looking for. This is a great resource, because it will list shelters, rescue groups and humane societies near your zip code with dogs available.
-
3
Check Petfinder.com. There are personal classified ads where people list their Labs. You can also do a search for Labs in the Petfinder database, and you will find many, many Labs looking for homes. Watch out for those rescue groups if you are short on cash, though, because adoption fees can run up to $300 dollars.

4
Try New Leash on Life, and Southern California Labrador Retriever Rescue. There are Courtesy entries where individual people list their dogs, as well as foster dogs available from the rescue itself.

5
Try the Recycler online and Pennysaver online. Look under Pets for sale, and do a Lab search.
