How to Prepare for a Nursing Interview

When you are ready to get a nursing job, you know that one of the most important things you can do is really nail the interview. This is your best chance to impress your future bosses and make sure that they know you are going to be the best one for the job.

Instructions

    • 1

Make sure your resume is presentable and make a copy to have at the interview. Even if they already have one, you want to bring one along. Go over it again and make sure that you remember all of the things you included on it.

    • 2

Contact your references and let them know you have an interview and they might be called. Make a printout of their names and numbers and bring it along to the interview.

    • 3

Think back on your experiences and your education. Think about some situations where you solved a problem, worked well under pressure, made a quick decision, used teamwork, were in charge, were under someone else's charge, and where you worked with management. Also think about some good decisions you made, and some bad ones. All of these situations could come up in an interview. Think about the nursing experience you have had and try to relate it to the job you hope to get.

Think about the qualities that you have, both bad and good. Think about these qualities and how they make you a better nurse. Be ready to discuss them at length.

    • 5

Learn about the hospital or place where the interview is. This will help you ask insightful questions. Knowing about the place is also a good way to score points during your interview.

    • 6

Clean and press your interview clothes the day before the interview. Lay them out so that you are not stressed the next day before the interview.

Tips & Warnings

  • Look good and feel confident!

  • Never lie on your resume or in your interview.
