How to Make a Hellboy Halloween Costume

Hellboy, a very popular comic book character created by Mike Mignola, has been featured in several successful films starring Ron Perlman. In the story, Hellboy is a demon who was born when the Nazis performed an occult ritual to summon the forces of hell. He's one of the most ironic superheroes ever to grace the big screen. Most of the Hellboy costume is fairly nondescript. However, some aspects such as the stone right fist and the red makeup may pose a challenge.

    Instructions

      • 1

Get a light brown leather trenchcoat. Cut and hem the right arm at the elbow. Also get some black jeans and shoes.

      • 2

Get some large, high-resolution pictures of Hellboy's stone right arm taken from multiple angles. Cut and dampen some pieces of cardboard and mold them into the desired shapes. Use duct tape or hot glue to join the pieces and then paint the entire arm red. Go over the surface with black craft paint, then wipe off the excess before it has a chance to dry.

      • 3

Get a thick brown leather belt. With leather straps, attach a horseshoe, a large metal cross and some large wooden beads attached to each other with chains. If possible, get a round red belt buckle with an unfinished rim. Get a leather holster with a costume gun. Attach another leather strap to the right side of the belt, and loop it around your leg before attaching the other end.

      • 4

Wash two empty tuna cans. Make sure there are no sharp edges around the open end. Cut some duct tape strips in half. Carefully attach the duct tape to the open ends of the cans, leaving some tape exposed. Paint the cans and the tape red with craft paint. Set them down on a piece of clean plastic.

      • 5

Put on a bald head rubber cap. Tie a long, black wig into a bun at the nape, then attach it to the back of your head. Use gum if necessary. Attach long costume sideburns to the sides of your face. Attach the tuna can horns to the bald cap near where it covers your hairline.

      • 6

Paint your entire face and left hand red. Be sure to apply the red makeup to the bald cap as well. Use translucent powder to seal the makeup. You may either paint your chest red as well or wear a black T-shirt.

      • 7

Make a devil's tail out of cardboard or papier mache. Paint it red and attach it to the trousers with duct tape.

    Tips & Warnings

    • If you can't find a leather coat, go over a yellow raincoat with brown shoe polish.
