How to Create a Peasant Costume
While most girls covet princess costumes for Halloween night, you choose to be the peasant. There are many reasons that one may choose this costume. It will certainly fit into most budgets. It may be an expression of how our current society makes you feel. Perhaps your favorite movie character was a peasant. Start with your hair. If doable around work commitments, go without washing it for a few days. You can do this by wearing your hair in braids or buns when going out during these few days. If that's not a possibility, try to make your hair a bit icky for the costume. Put the wrong amount of gel or setting oil. Remember that you're a peasant. You've been working for days on end without the luxury of a bath or running water.

Start with an off-the-shoulder white top. This should be "peasant" style with some ruffle at the top. Long, flowing sleeves make a pretty relief for this costume.

Grab a brown, gray or black vest. This should be corset-style. It should fit your figure snugly. You are a poor girl without the time or means to purchase new clothes every time an outfit gets snug. Let it rest against your body. You don't want to look like a sausage, but a close fit is a must.

Put on a long, green skirt. Any other color would do as long as it is earthy in tone. You can't afford regal colors like purple. It's work clothes for you, missy! The skirt should be free flowing. You have to do a lot of moving around in your work as a mere peasant girl.

Put on old-fashioned work boots that look well worn. Don't destroy an expensive pair of shoes. Look at local thrift shops for a great deal on an ugly pair of boots.

Carry an old-fashioned broom with you. You are a peasant and must sweep at the party.
