1
Utilize Walmart’s policy on price matching. It’s a little known fact that Walmart matches competitor pricing. If you see an item at another store that is less expensive than Walmart’s price, simply take that ad with you and take the item to a cash register. Before the clerk rings up your item, tell them you would like them to match the lower price and show them the advertisement. The item must be the exact same item for this to work. This will save you a trip to the other store if you plan on doing most of your shopping at Walmart.

2
Use Walmart’s brand of items. Walmart has their own store brand of almost everything from food to over-the-counter pharmaceuticals. With food items, decide if you want to purchase name brand items first. Sometimes people don’t like the taste of generic brands, but you can try it before you buy a lot of the generic brand. As far as pharmaceuticals, compare the ingredients on both boxes. Most of the time you will find that they are exactly the same so you will save money by buying Walmart’s store brand.

Check out the clearance aisle. In different parts of the store you will find clearance aisles or sale end caps. These are great places to locate items that are at a fraction of their original cost. In the food section you will usually find this in the “seasonal” area. In the pharmacy area clearance items are usually at the end of each aisle on an end cap.

4
Find end of season items. At the end of each season, find items that are being sold at a greatly discounted price. If it’s the end of summer locate pool items and bathing suits at lower prices and the same goes for finding cheaper winter items in the spring.

5
Keep your receipt. Walmart is great about letting you return items that are defective or not needed. Maintain a copy of your receipt and as long as you follow certain guidelines you will have no problem getting a refund. If your item goes on sale within 7 days of purchase, take your receipt back to Walmart with your ad showing the sale price and receive the difference back as a refund.
