How to Make Abraham Lincoln's Log Cabin
President's Day is a great day to teach children and students about the history of the American Presidents. One of the most famous presidents was the sixteenth president, Abraham Lincoln. Some of the things Abraham Lincoln is remembered for are the Gettysburg Address, his assassination in Ford's Theater, his nickname "Honest Abe," and his log cabin. After you teach your children about Abraham Lincoln you can have them create his log cabin as a reminder.

1
Lay out a piece of cardboard. If you don't have one a piece of construction paper will do. The cardboard backing is preferred because it is stronger and can hold handle the popsicle sticks better.
-
2
Glue eight to ten popsicle sticks on your cardboard to form a log cabin. Each popsicle stick should touch the one above it. Place these popsicle sticks in the middle of your cardboard toward the bottom and working their way upward.
-
3
Cut a triangle roof from some construction paper (black or brown are best). Make sure the triangle is slightly bigger than the log cabin shape. Glue it above the popsicle sticks.
-
4
Cut out a chimney from some red construction paper and glue it on the left or right side of the triangle roof.
-
5
Cut out a door for your log cabin. It will be a rectangle, but glued on so that it is more long than wide.
-
6
Cut a small round door knob from your construction paper and add it to your door with glue.
-
7
Cut a square for the window of your log cabin. Glue either a penny in the middle of the window or a five dollar bill. If you don't want to waste your $5 bill just use a color copier to copy it and then cut and paste the copy in the window. Then glue the window in the log cabin.

Use markers to draw a scene on the rest of the cardboard. Make some hills, flowers, trees and woodland animals.

Tips & Warnings
Instead of markers, use paints to draw a scene on the cardboard.
Make sure the child has permission to use the money on this project. If they do not have permission, copy the money and have the child use the copy.
