Dallas is the third largest city in Texas. Dallas, nicknamed the "Big D," has a diverse economy with the following industries as some of the major players: defense, financial services, information technology, life sciences, semiconductors, telecommunications, transportation and processing. The suggestions in this article are based on the premise that you are planning on embarking on a budget-friendly trip. If you have more money to spend, you can always upgrade.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine your budget. There are expensive and cheap ways of enjoying any city. The first thing to do is to determine what your budget is and then make your travel plans around that.

    • 2

Book your flight ticket and hotel ahead of time. Booking travel 14 to 21 days ahead of time makes a lot of difference in price. These days with airline travel becoming more of a hassle, Southwest Airlines remains a breath of fresh air. You can still check in 2 bags without paying an extra fee, and no, you will not be charged for peanuts and soda. You can also book your hotel on the Southwest website. Their prices are comparable to those of other discount travel sites (see Resources below).

    • 3

Research your must-dos, all depending on your budget, of course. A good place to start your research is the Yahoo! travel website. Here you can get recommendations on the top places to visit or things to do, restaurants to eat at and reviews from individuals who actually visited these places (see Resources below).

Research your ground transportation options ahead of time. Decide whether you want to take the airport shuttle, a cab or other form of public transportation, or rent a car. If you will rent a car, the Southwest Airlines site can also be helpful. Some car rental services, like Alamo, allow you to reserve your rental, check in ahead of time and just pick your car off the lot at the airport. That way you can avoid lines at rental car stands at the airport (see Resources below).

Arrive at the airport at least 2 hours before your flight to make allowances for security checks. Check in online ahead of time, even if you are checking bags. It makes things a little easier. Also remember to check the airline website for the current security advisories before leaving for the airport. Once in Dallas, take your ground transportation of choice and enjoy your visit.
