The great thing about being a geek for Halloween is that you can customize your outfit. You can even draw inspiration by studying geeks in the media. However, do not mistake a nerd for a geek. In a 2007 interview on "The Colbert Report", Richard Clarke said that the difference between nerds and geeks is "geeks get it done." Many of the ideas mentioned below will be characteristics derived from the geeks of the 1980s and 1990s.
Do research on geeks for inspiration. Figure out the type of geek that you would like to represent.
2
Get glasses, the ultimate geek accessory. Add tape around the nose bridge for added emphasis.
3
Follow the general rule: find ill-fitting and unfashionable attire with colors that clash.
4
Find a shirt or collared button-up with a breast pocket for a pocket protector. T-shirts can display stereotypical "geek" interests, such as sci-fi shows and movies, science, computers, or comic books.
5
Get suspenders. Suspenders are a major accessory associated with geeks.
6
Find high-waist pleated pants. This major fashion faux pas is a geek necessity.
7
Wear high-top sneakers. They pay particular homage to the 1980's geek.
8
Want to be a sexy, female geek? The archetypal female geek is a fantasy for those who frequent comic book conventions. They often appear at conventions as models dressed in a themed outfit which consists of tight, fitted clothing with few true geek characteristics. The costume is a mixture of the sexy school girl and sexy librarian. Glasses are a must.
Tips & Warnings
Watch your posture. Stand slumped, with your back curved forward.
You do not have to follow all of the advice listed above. You can use these ideas and create your own concept of what a nerd is.
