Step 1
Catch the ball with both hands. The drop kick must be done from a snap or a lateral. It is important to receive the ball cleanly. Keep your eye on the ball and be sure it is in your hands securely before proceeding with your drop kick.

Step 2
Point your body in the direction of the goal posts. You must do this prior to stepping into your drop kick. If you are doing it from a snap, then you can align your body before the play. If you are drop kicking from a lateral, then you must adjust your body after receiving the ball.

Turn the laces up. This is important so you don't kick the laces. If you do, the ball will move in unpredictable directions.

Point the tip to the ball down. Do this by holding the ball by the sides and pointing your fingers forward, then turning them downward. Keep your elbows slightly bent as you keep the ball waist high.

Step forward with your kicking foot then take a second step with your plant foot. As you do this, keep your head down and over football. Keep the football pointing toward the ground.

Drop the ball on its pointed end in front of your kicking foot. Angle it slightly towards you.

Swing your kicking foot through the football. Make contact with it just as it hits the ground or a fraction of a second afterward. If you are kicking for distance, point your toe and impact the ball in the center when it first touches the ground. If you want height, let it bounce up slightly and kick it near the bottom of the football.

Step 8
Follow through by swinging your kicking leg past eye level. Keep your eye on the ball throughout the entire kick.
