How to Remove Motorcycle Grips
Do you want to replace your motorcycle grips? Are you tired of having to twist and pull all day long when you want to remove them? In this article, you will learn a very simple way to remove motorcycle grips with the smallest amount of effort.
Things You'll Need
- Wire clippers
- Small flathead screwdriver
- Motor oil
- Injector
- Small ball pump

Remove any wire that is keeping the grips tightly attached. Do this with a small pair of wire clippers and a small flathead screwdriver. Clip the wire, then slide the screwdriver under the wire to pull it up.

Using an injector, squirt a little motor oil deep under the grip. Do this at two or three different locations around the grip. It will allow the rubber to slide much more easily over the aluminum surface.

Using a ball pump, inflate the grip. To do this, just insert the needle at the end of the grip and begin pumping. Be sure not to make any other holes in the rubber so that the air doesn't leak.

While twisting the grip back and forth, pull it hard to get it to slide off. This may take quite a bit of pressure and a few tries, but it's not too hard.

After removing the grip, thoroughly clean the surface of the bars with soapy water. You don't want motor oil or other contaminants on the aluminum when you go to put on your new set of grips.

Tips & Warnings
Have someone help you when removing the grips. They can keep the grip inflated with the ball pump while you twist and pull the grip off. It makes things much easier.
Watch your hands when removing the wire. It can easily poke you.
Always be careful of pinch points when working around motorcycles.
