Book clubs can be an enriching experience, allowing you to share your views on a piece. But Christian book clubs can both help you understand a work and grow spiritually.

Finding the right group

1. Finding a Christian book club may be the hardest part of joining one. Spread the word about your search among friends and family. They may know someone in a Christian book club or may be interested in beginning one.

2. Talk to a nearby Christian bookstore. Some may have bulletin boards where customers can post listings.

3. Put up postings at your church bulletin board, or if your congregation is small, a call to the church office can place it on the announcements.

4. Once a member, read the books and contribute to the discussion. A main complaint of many book clubs is the lack of actual conversation about the subject.

Starting your own Christian book club

5. Search for members just as you would when searching for book clubs by place announcements at Christian book stores or at your church and congregations around town.

6. Select the first two or three books for your book club, and plan to meet once a month.

7. Set up a comfortable place for discussion at a coffee shop or at the homes of the members.

8. After the first month or two, allow the next month's host to choose his or her own selections.

• Keep in touch with your book club throughout the month, especially if they are new acquaintances. This will keep them motivated and interested in the club.
