Take Good Notes in Class.
Take Good Notes in Class.

Taking notes in class can be tricky. It may be hard to concentrate with all the distractions, or you may not be sure what is important to write down. It is different in every class to determine what is going to be helpful for you.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Notebook
  • Pen/Pencil
  • Study Time
  • Organizational Skills
  1. Step 1

Make your notes clear. Be sure to title your notes with the Chapter and Topic. Also, make sure that you highlight the important stuff. Always write something down even if you already know it just so when you go to study for the test you will know that the topic is a possible question.

  2. Step 2

Make it your own. Do not just take notes off the board. What is the point if you are just COPYING what the teacher wrote. If you read the sentence and put it into your own words it will be easier for you to understand. You're not supposed to memorize the material (this isn't a play!). You are supposed to learn and understand the material.

  3. Step 3

Study the notes. Do not just take down the notes, and forget about them. Study them. This is not saying you need to look at them every night even though that is a good idea. When you find out about the test, however, study the materials that will be on the test.

  4. Step 4

Get your rest. Not only does studying help your performance, but also getting good sleep and eating healthy. Do not cram the night before the exam. You should already know the material by then. The night before the exam is to look over and remind yourself the little things that may have gotten lost.

Tips & Warnings
  • Doing suggested readings and homework that are not to be handed in will help you in the long run.
  • Using flash cards and writing on a whiteboard as if you are playing the role of the teacher are helpful study tips .
  • Review your notes over and over.
  • Keep your notes organized by Chapter, Section, and Topic so you can flip to them easily when you need to figure out a certain question that may appear on your homework or verbally in class.
