How to avoid mildew smell on towels
The mildew smell on towels essentially comes from towels that remain damp and are not allowed to dry thoroughly. Mold grows and reproduces when it is in a moist and wet environment, and towels that are either not dried completely or ones that are hanging in a humid atmosphere will be susceptible to mold infestation. 1
Hang your towels to dry right away after you use them. If you are able, dry your towels in full sun if possible. The suns radiation will kill mold and mildew spores.
-
2
Place them in the dryer and make sure they have the drying time needed to dry completely. Throw in a dryer sheet for a fresh, clean smell.

3
Ventilate the bathroom of all moisture. Leave the bathroom window open or curtains up so that sunlight will enter the room. Alternately, place a fan in the bathroom to blow air and humidity out.
