Things You'll Need:

  • Tylenol PM
  1. Step 1

Know the ingredients of Tylenol PM.

Tylenol PM contains both acetaminophen pain reliever and diphenhydramine HCl, a sedative also found in Benadryl. There are 500 mg of acetaminophen and 25 mg diphenhydramine HCl in one Tylenol PM capsule.

  2. Step 2

    Know the dangers of acetaminophen.

In order to prevent liver damage, acetaminophen can not be taken with alcohol. You can't take Tylenol PM on a night where you drink three or more drinks, or else you may damage your liver.

  3. Step 3

Know the dangers of diphenhydramine HCl.

Diphenhydramine is a powerful sedative. You shouldn't take it in the middle of the day, or while you are driving or operating machinery. Tylenol PM should only be taken before bed time.

  4. Step 4

Know the possible safety benefits of Tylenol PM.

Tylenol PM is not addictive, and it may be used carefully without a serious chance of addiction. Addiction and dependence can be a problem with prescription sleep aids.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remember to look at the ingredients of any over the counter drug you take. Follow the directions listed on the label.
  • Don't take Tylenol PM if you have a history of liver or kidney damage. Many sleep aids only have 25 mg diphenhydramine HCl, with no acetaminophen.
