How to Kill the First Boss in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

You've just completed the tutorial level, you've killed some Space Pirates and you're making a b-line for your ship. Everything looks sweet until you hit the docking bay. Just when you thought you were about to escape, a big and nasty Berserker shows up to stop you. He looks tough, but he will drop like a Presidential Approval Rating if you know where to hit him.

Instructions

1. Scan him. You'll want to scan everything in Metroid Prime 3. Scanning bosses is particularly important since you only get one shot at it. To scan him, press and hold the "-" button to bring up the visor menu. Select the Scanning Visor at the top. Move your cursor over the Berserker and hold the Z button to scan.

2. Lock on and aim for the shoulders. See the two large pink bubbles? There will be one on each of his shoulders. Shoot them repeatedly to break them. Attack the other when you destroy the first one. Destroying these causes him to launch a pair of purple spheres at you.

3. Shoot the purple spheres. This will send his purple bombs back at him, destroying his armor plating and causing a lot of damage. Keep doing this as long as he deploys them. It may take a few tries to hit them, but keep at it. He will regenerate his shoulder bubbles at least once. Destroy them again when they reappear.

4. Dodge his attacks. The Berserker has three main attacks: an energy stream, a swipe with his claws and a blast ring. The energy stream can be avoided by strafing (moving from side to side.) To strafe, lock onto the boss with the Z button and throw the control stick to the left and right. Avoid the melee attacks by keeping at medium range. You needn't get too far, just far enough to be able to hit him and avoid his melee attacks. The blast ring can be avoided by double-jumping when you see him release it. Being further away from him will give you more time to dodge this attack.

5. Aim for the head. Once you've hit him with enough purple bombs, he will start doing more blast waves. You will also see a pink halo on his head. Shoot this repeatedly to bring the Berserker down. You can use Charge Shots and Missiles if you like, but you don't really need to.
