How to Play the Pumpkin Scavenger Hunt

The Pumpkin Scavenger Hunt is a great Halloween party game. It is a scavenger hunt game where the children at the Halloween party are searching for pumpkins around the house and outside of the house. Instead of using real pumpkins though, cut the pumpkins out of construction paper. Use several different colors of paper and award different types of candy for each different color of pumpkin that is found. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Draw pumpkins on various colors of construction paper. After drawing the pumpkins cut them out of the construction paper using scissors. Write the name of a type of candy on the back of each pumpkin. Examples of the names are full size candy bar, snack size candy bar, hard candy, bubblegum or lollipop. This step, along with step two should be done before the children arrive for the Pumpkin Scavenger Hunt Game.

    • 2

Hide the colored pumpkins throughout your house and outside of the house. Hide the ones with full size candy bars in harder locations to find. Make one or two of the pumpkins with the full size candy bars hidden in an easier area to give younger children a chance to be rewarded with a large candy bar prize as well.

    • 3

Invite children over for a Halloween party, and let them know that there are pumpkins hidden all around the house made of construction paper. Let the children know that their goal is to find as many pumpkins as possible.

    • 4

Make the game fair by limiting the number of pumpkins any older children at the party can find if the group of children at the Halloween party is a large age range. Once the older children find their quota of pumpkins, encourage them to help the younger children.

    • 5

Direct the children to line up after everyone has found all the pumpkins and the Pumpkin Scavenger Hunt Game at your Hallowen Party has ended. Check the back of each pumpkin and let the children choose her own piece of candy for each pumpkin she has based on the category on the back of each of the pumpkins she found.

Tips & Warnings

  • This game can also be played with adults for candy, or for larger prizes such as gift certificates. If it is for gift certificates, the pumpkins should be hidden in harder locations to find, and the name and value of the gift card should be written on the back of each pumpkin.

  • Placing limits on the number of pumpkins each child can find ensures everyone gets some candy as prizes.
