How to Accessorize on a Budget

Each new fashion season breeds longing in the hearts of fashion and style lovers everywhere. As soon as stores put out the latest trends, it is easy to find clothes you love and want, but sometimes buying a whole new wardrobe falls quite outside your budget. Don't despair, though, you can bring your outfits into the current season with accessories and you can do it without going broke.

1. Take inventory of your wardrobe. Compile a list of what's in your drawers and closets. Take stock of jeans, pants, skirts, dresses, blouses, T-shirts and jackets. Knowing what clothing you have is important to knowing what accessories you'll need.

2. Gather existing accessories. This should include necklaces, rings, bracelets, earrings, scarves, hats, belts and hair clips that you already have. Only keep your favorite accessories and give away to charity or friends any that you haven't used in a while or don't like anymore.

3. Set a budget that you can afford. Figure on spending $50 to $100. Just make sure that it is truly affordable for you at this time.

4. Choose quality over quantity. It's easy to find all kinds of cheap accessories, but you should avoid purchasing anything so cheap that it'll end up broken after just a few uses. It's better to buy a few great quality items than a lot of inexpensive ones.

5. Stick with the basics if you are having trouble with your budget. Purchasing a quality leather belt, a silk or long cotton scarf and a stylish hat can create many looks without costing you a fortune.

6. Use one thing many ways. You can use a scarf in your hair, around your neck, around your waist or as a belt, even add it to your bag to change the look. A long necklace can be layered or wrapped around your wrist as a bracelet. Mix and match, look at magazines for inspiration, or create your own personal style.
