Here's how to change the screen resolution on a Macintosh OS X computer. In general terms, the display resolution makes everything on your screen bigger (low resolution) or small and sharp looking (high resolution).

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Go to the Apple Menu at the top left of your screen.

  2. Step 2

    Open System Preferences...

  3. Step 3

In the System Preferences pane, click on the Displays icon.

  4. Step 4

The possible monitor resolutions are listed on the left in the "Resolutions" pane.

  5. Step 5

Click on the different screen resolutions and the computer will automatically change the display resolution. Low numbers mean low resolution, high numbers mean high resolution.

  6. Step 6

If you don't like a setting, change it back to the original by clicking on the number that was previously selected.

  7. Step 7

Click on the square button next to "Show display in menu bar" if you'd like to be able to change the monitor resolution from the menu bar. (A display menu appears next to the clock in the upper right of the menu bar when you click this option).
