Tis the season! Making homemade pie crust can be tough at first, but practice makes perfect. Try this recipe for apple pie, a cozy autumn staple!

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • PIE FILLING:
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp nutmeg
  • 5-6 apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1/4 cup light corn syrup
  • 2 tablespoons butter cut up
  • PIE CRUST
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 4-6 tablespoons cold water
  • rolling pin
  • extra flour for rolling
  1. Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine sugars and flour, add sliced apples, butter and corn syrup. Mix well, set aside.

  2. Step 2

Mix ingredients for pie crust in large bowl. Knead together with your hands (it works better than a spatula). After well combined, split the dough in half. Set one half aside. On a floured surface, roll out the dough. If you have trouble rolling, add more flour. After rolled to a little bigger than pie dish size, place dough into bottom of pie dish.

  3. Step 3

Spoon pie filling into pie dish. Roll out the remaining dough and place over the pie dish. Flute the edges of the pie crust. Slice a few small slits into the top of the dough to vent during baking.

  4. Step 4

Bake pie for about 45-60 minutes. Let cool (about 2 hrs at least). Serve with vanilla ice cream!
