This article will give you instructions for making a Maui Island Style homemade teriyaki sauce marinade. My husband got this from his father, who got it from his father, who brought this over from Japan. This recipe is not a secret, but it is the first time we've posted it on the internet. Everyone has their own version, but this is the teriyaki marinade made by our family. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • large mixing bowl
  • 1 cup soy sauce
  • 1 cup brown sugar (you can substitute white sugar if that's all you have)
  • 1 garlic clove - crushed
  • 1 fresh chunk of ginger root (size & length of your thumb)- peeled and sliced lengthwise
  • 2 green onions (the GREEN part) - diced
  • 1/2 tsp sesame seed oil
  • 1 Tbsp toasted sesame seed

Instructions

    • 1

To make island style teriyaki sauce marinade, put brown sugar in the large mixing bowl. To this, add the soy sauce. Mix until the sugar has completely dissolved.

    • 2

Add the rest of the ingredients and mix well. Put whatever meat you wish, beef, pork or chicken into the marinade. Cover the bowl and refrigerate. Turn occasionally to make sure all the meat is covered.

    • 3

For the best results, the meat must stay in the teriyaki marinade sauce for AT LEAST 2 hours, though overnight is preferred for the best saturation. Ready to grill and enjoy!
