Things You'll Need:
- empathy
- mindfulness
-
Step 1
If someone you know is poor and needs food, help them find assistance or bring them something to eat. Food Banks and soup kitchens are available in most localities. Offer a ride to one of them.
-
Step 2
If you see anyone being abusive to another person or animal, call the police. Fight the impulse to look the other way.
-
Step 3
If you know someone who is alone and in poor health, call to see how they're doing. This is particularly important in the winter, when the elderly and ill are housebound.
-
Step 4
If you see someone stranded on the side of the road with car problems, call for help. Most of us have cell phones, and though it may not be wise to approach a total stranger, a 911 call is easy enough.
-
Step 5
Help an elderly person with yard work , or pay a teen to do it. It means an elderly person can retain the pride he has always had in his home's appearance. Offer a grocery trip, and you may save a person from hunger.

on 10/1/2008 Nice article. Thanks for the reminder. Sometimes we get so caught up in our own troubles and forget to look outward to help others. Helping others is the quickest way to get over your own troubles.
