Things You'll Need:
- Levi 501 Shrink To Fit Jeans <$35 in most retailers.
-
Step 1
Find Levi's Shrink To Fit Jeans in a store or online.
Levi's Shrink To Fit Jeans are a special type of jean made by Levi that shrink when you wash them. Unlike regular Levi's, a pair of Shrink To Fit Jeans will have a very coarse, almost rough looking weave. American big box clothing stores like Fred Meyer are now stocking them in most men's sizes. You can also look for them in Army/Navy stores and online. The key is to buy Shrink To Fit 501's, not the pre-shrunk or ready to wear varieties. -
Step 2
Buy the right size.
Shrink to fit Levi's should be purchased an inch or two wider than your normal size at the waist measurement. The leg measurement three inches longer than your normal size. -
Step 3
Find the right way to shrink them.
The Shrink To Fit methods used vary greatly, but the key is to get into water while wearing your jeans. Some people jump into a hot water bath while wearing their Shrink To Fit Jeans. Other Shrink To Fitters swear by wading waist deep into the ocean with their jeans on. Both methods control the shrinkage and contour the jeans to your body. -
Step 4
Once you've taken a bath with your jeans on, wear them around for a day or two.
-
Step 5
If they still don't fit right after a few days, take another hot bath/shower.
-
Step 6
That's all you need to do. You can wear them for weeks at this stage without further washing.
-
Step 7
You can wash them if you want to lighten the color and wash the dye out. Hand wash them, or bathe your jeans in the cold water cycle all by themselves. The Levi's blue dye will come out, and they'll get lighter the more you wash them.
