1
Support your Dodge Ram at the frame rails with safety stands, then independently support the rear axle with a jack. This second lift is meant only to relieve the stress from the leaf springs, not to support any of the vehicle's weight.
-
2
Remove or disconnect the rear wheel or wheels nearest the spring or springs you intend to replace. Then disconnect or remove the stabilizer bar link, the axle U-bolts.

-
3
Unbolt and remove the spring bracket from the frame, then unbolt and disconnect the spring shackles to remove the leaf spring from the vehicle. Install the new leaf spring to the shackles and bolt the brackets back to the vehicle frame. Install the spring eye connectors only loosely.

4
Install new U-bolts, tightening the nuts to 52 foot pounds on 2001 2002 manual, and 110 foot pounds on 2003 2005 manuals. Reconnect the stabilizer bar link loosely and reinstall the rear wheel or wheels you had removed.
-
5
Lower your vehicle so that the springs are supporting its weight, then torque the front spring eye bolt and nut to 115 foot pounds, the rear spring eye bolt and nut to 80 foot pounds, and the stabilizer bar nuts to 55 foot pounds in the 2001 2002 models. On 2003 to 2005 models, tighten the front and rear pivot bolt nuts to 120 foot pounds of torque.
