Step 1
Pamper yourself! Just because you don't have a significant other this year, it doesn't mean you are any less worthy of a little lovey-dovey attention. Instead of celebrating love for someone else, celebrate love for yourself! Go out and do something that you enjoy and makes you feel special; buy yourself some roses and a box of chocolates or go have a make-over. You deserve it as much as the next person!
-
Step 2
Hook up with some single friends and pamper each other! Make a date to spend the day at a spa or to watch movies with some chocolate and wine for refreshments.
-
Step 3
Don't dwell on being single (unless you absolutely love it)! Single folks who wish they were in a relationship have been known to compare themselves to couples on Valentine's Day, which can cause depression and/or agitation; two emotions we all would love to avoid. If you're single this Valentine's Day, don't feel sorry for yourself or mope around. Those couples you see on the street may not really have the life you want (some may want to be in your shoes). Instead, focus on the perks of being single!
-
Step 4
Blow off Valentine's Day completely and make plans for something else! It's not a requirement to celebrate Valentine's Day, so if you'd rather avoid the holiday and not get caught up in the hype, plan something else instead; such as a camping trip, a scavenger hunt, or go to an amusement park.
-
Step 5
Attend some of the "singles" parties that could be taking place and socialize. It's more common nowadays to find social gatherings for singles on Valentine's Day, so go to some of them, enjoy yourself, and make some new friends. Who knows? You may meet next year's Valentine there!
-
Step 6
Valentine's Day isn't just about loving or being loved by a significant other ... it's about love in general. So, plan some Valentine ideas that will let you express your love for the others in your life (i.e., friends and family). Cook your folks a nice dinner, call your friends for no other reason than to tell them how much you appreciate them, or put together some Valentine goodie bags to pass out to the people you know. You can even pass out cards or treats to random strangers (hey, you aren't the only one single this Valentine's Day ... the gesture may be more appreciated than you realize).
-
Step 7
Since Valentine's Day is all about the love, considering doing some volunteer work at a local hospital or shelter. Not only can it make you feel good about yourself, but you may brighten someone else's day!
