Things You'll Need:

  • Siphoning hose
  • Coolant container
  • Torque wrench
  • Throttle
  1. Step 1

Lift your Camaro's hood to gain access to the engine and the throttle. Disconnect the car battery's negative terminal from the battery. Open the engine cooling system toward the left side of the hood. Insert a siphoning hose to drain the coolant into a coolant container.

  2. Step 2

Take off the air intake duct hose from the throttle's body, and remove the accelerator and cruise control cables from the right side of the throttle lever. Remove all vacuum and coolant hoses from the throttle's body and cover them to prevent any leaks. Disconnect the electrical connectors for the intake air temperature and mass air-flow sensors around the throttle body.

  3. Step 3

Use a torque wrench to take off the mounting bolts and nuts on each side of the throttle. Lower the old throttle onto a flat wooden surface for support. Inspect it for any damage.

  4. Step 4

Place the new throttle gently behind your Camaro's engine. Use the torque wrench to tighten the mounting nuts and bolts on each side of the throttle to hold it in place.

  5. Step 5

Reconnect the intake air temperature and mass air flow sensors around the throttle body. Uncover the vacuum and coolant hoses and reattach them to the throttle body. Attach the accelerator and cruise control cables back to the right side of the throttle.

  6. Step 6

Put the air intake duct hose back on the throttle body. Open the coolant container and insert the siphoning hose to refill the coolant in the engine's cooling system. Reactivate your car's battery by plugging back in the negative car battery terminal.

  7. Step 7

Check for any loosely connected wires or coolant leakage. Put the hood back down on the car and turn on the ignition. Let the engine run a few minutes to make sure the throttle is working properly. If it looks and sounds good, take your Camaro out for a test drive.

Tips & Warnings
  • Minimize fire risk by keeping anything flammable away from your car and your work area. Keep a fire extinguisher close by in case of fire.
