Since 1986, the Acura Integra has been the embodiment of luxury driving and simplicity; many of its repairs and part replacements are simple, too. To prepare to replace the throttle in your Acura, for example, first examine your Integra's engine throttle for any damage. Understand how your Acura's engine runs before beginning any part of the throttle removal and installation process on any Integra model.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Lift the your car's hood to gain access to the engine. Remove the cable from the negative car battery terminal. Take off the air duct that's plugged onto the air cleaner hose, which is also part of the throttle's body. Unplug the electrical connectors located on each side of throttle body.

  2. Step 2

Detach the vacuum hoses and the accelerator cable from the top of the throttle body. Take off the throttle's coolant hoses from the top of the throttle. Plug the coolant lines with a cloth to prevent any liquid coolant loss. Use a torque wrench to remove the four throttle mounting nuts on each end of the body. Take the old throttle out and place it on a wooden board.

  3. Step 3

Get out your new throttle and place it behind the back of your Acura's engine. Tighten the throttle mounting bolts onto each end of throttle's body to hold it in place.

  4. Step 4

Remove the cloth plugging the coolant hoses, then connect the coolant hoses to the top of the new throttle's body. Plug in the accelerator cable and the vacuum hoses from the top of the throttle body. Check to make sure the hoses are connected before going further.

  5. Step 5

Reattach the electrical connectors to the top of the throttle's body. Plug the air duct nozzle back in to the air cleaner assembly hose on the throttle body. Activate the car battery by plugging in the negative battery terminal.

  6. Step 6

Check for any loosely connected wires or coolant leakage. When you're done, put the hood back down on the car and start your engine. Let it run a few minutes to make sure the throttle is working, then take your Integra out for a spin.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure your Integra's engine is completely cool before doing any work on it. Wear gloves to prevent your hands from getting burned. Also keep a fire extinguisher handy to put out any engine fires.
  • Place each part you remove from your engine on a flat surface or a wooden board. Label each part to correctly install the throttle back in your car to keep from mixing up any of your Integra's parts.
