A few ideas to get rid of fleas without using pesticides.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Use a flea comb to comb fleas out of pet's fur daily. If you can find any fleas on your pet, comb every day until you can't find any more. The best method is to comb down to the skin around the face and ears. Not only is the fur shorter here and easier to comb through, but fleas tend to congregate in these sensitive areas.

  2. Step 2

Be ready to catch any fleas you see or comb out. A sticky pet fur remover roll is a good start - catch the fleas by rolling over them, then remove the sticky paper and drown the fleas in rubbing alcohol or soapy water. Fleas can also be crushed, but you need to crush hard. They're tough!

  3. Step 3

In addition to removing fleas from your pet, you need to trap any that may be lurking in your rooms. Fleas are attracted to light and light colors. An organic trap can be created by filling a pie tin or shallow dish with water and detergent, and placing the dish on top of an overturned drinking glass. Next place a reading lamp directly over the water, shining down onto it. Fleas will jump towards the light, land in the soapy water and be drowned. This works best overnight when the contrast of the reading lamp to ambient light is greatest.

Tips & Warnings
  • The main idea is to kill more fleas than are reproducing daily. Using these methods, the number of fleas you can find every day should reduce until they're gone!

on 11/25/2009 I use Dawn liquid dish detergent to quickly put them in, it works the best, they drown quick and I wash My Babies in along with flea soap.
