Here's how to tune your guitar to Sawmill tuning. This tuning is also called G-Modal tuning and is adapted from a banjo tuning of the same name.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Electronic guitar tuner (or)
  • A good ear and a piano or keyboard
  1. Step 1

    Tune your first string, (the thickest string on the guitar) to D.

  2. Step 2

    Tune your second string to G.

  3. Step 3

    Tune your third string to D.

  4. Step 4

    Tune your fourth string to G.

  5. Step 5

    Tune your fifth string to C.

  6. Step 6

    Tune your sixth string to D.

  7. Step 7

    The entire tuning is listed as D G D G C D. Your guitar is now tuned to an G major sustained 4th chord. You can use this tuning to play Sawmill banjo tunes on the guitar.
