Grow a Pineapple from a Pineapple
Grow a Pineapple from a Pineapple

Pineapples are a healthy fruit, tart when not quite ripe, and juicy when well ripened. When you get ready to cut a whole pineapple, slice off an inch across the top, and use the crown to plant and create another pineapple plant.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pineapple
  • 8" plant pot
  • household plant food
  1. Step 1

Cut the top and pull off some of the leaves. Turn it upside down and allow it to dry.

Get an 8 inch pot, and fill it with garden soil. Plant the pineapple into the pot, pressing the soil around the base of the crown trying not to get the soil on the leaves.

  3. Step 3

Feed the pineapple with regular plant food every two months.

During the summer bring it outdoors on the patio, but bring it back indoors during the winter placed in front of or near a sunny window. Water lightly about once a week.

Watch the plant's growth, looking for a red bud, and then blue flowers. It will take about 6 months for the fruit to completely develop.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you find that the plant is not growing at all, then throw it out and start a new one.
  • The plant might not grow another pinapple. Since the flowers grow before the fruit, if you fail to notice flowers, then be assured you will not see the fruit.
