German shepherd puppies and some other breeds are supposed to have 'prick' ears, which means that they stand up straight. Although one ear that "flops" can be cute, if you want to have the true look of the German Shepherd, you might wish to tape the puppies' ears if they are not beginning to stand up straight by the age of six months or so. This is relatively easy to do, and the result is a dog that does indeed have the correct prick ears for the breed.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • sponge pink perm rollers with the plastic on the inside removed
  • super weatherstrip glue #08001 from an auto parts store
  • a German shepherd puppy with floppy ears
  • patience and perseverance
  1. Step 1

Put the hair roller inside the dog's floppy ear and fold the ear around it and hold for a minute or so, you may tape the ear up to the other ear if necessary, but often this is not necessary

  4. Step 4

Play with the puppy and stay with him for five minutes or so till the glue dries and stops itching.

Tips & Warnings
  • The roller will just fall out in a week or two. by then the ears should be standing up on their own.
  • If this doesn't work, and the pup's ears don't stand up, you can try it for two more weeks. After that it probably means your puppies ear just aren't going to be up straight.
  • The weather stripping glue is the ONLY glue that works for this!!
  • Be careful not to get the glue on your hands. Using plastic gloves will prevent this.

Actually, I would think that if these breeds were supposed to have pricked ears then they would be born with them, not be mutilated by their owners.
