You don't need to buy commercial cleaners to maintain your beautiful hardwood floors. You can use everyday products that you have around the house to keep those floors gleaming.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Vacuum floors thoroughly. You don't want any grit to scratch your floors while you mop.

  2. Step 2

Add 1/4 cup of vinegar to a gallon of warm water. Using a microfiber mop, clean floors going along the grain of the wood. A microfiber mop leaves the floor less wet than other mops which is better for preserving the finish on your hardwood floors

  3. Step 3

For a quick cleaning you can use a tablespoon of vinegar in a spray bottle and fill the rest with water. Spray sections of the floor and clean with your mop. Rinse the mop head when it begins to look dirty before moving on to a new section.

  4. Step 4

Tea is great for adding a shine to your hardwood floors. Steep a tea bag in a cup of hot water for about two minutes. Remove the tea bag and add the tea to a gallon of lukewarm water and mop as usual. The mild acid in tea really cleans and shines your floor.

Tips & Warnings
  • The best way to maintain the finish on your floors is to vacuum or sweep often. Sand can really dull the finish by leaving minute scratches on your floor.
  • This only works on polyurethaned hardwood floors. If you have waxed floors please follow directions for that specific kind of finish.
