Nothing is worse then walking across the floor of a brand new, white carpeted room with a cup of coffee then to suddenly jostle the cup and drip coffee on the brand new carpet. Here's how to remove coffee stains from a white, plush carpet.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Use ice cubes and paper towels.

Immediately rub ice cubes over the stain, blotting the coffee that does lift up with paper towels. Why ice cubes? They keeps the heat of the coffee from setting the stain.

  2. Step 2

Use Oxi-Clean or a similar carpet safe cleaner as soon as you can. Spray on the stain remover, let it soak, and keep rubbing the stain with paper towels.

(You should spot test all the carpet cleaners in your house before a stain emergency. Spot test a carpet cleaner on an out of the way piece of carpet, like behind a closet door.)

  3. Step 3

Don't use harsh bristles to scrub the stain.

Make sure that you don't damage the underlying structure of the carpet fibers. If you scrub the carpet with harsh bristles or scouring pads, this damage will be apparent even after the stain is gone.

  4. Step 4

    Don't give up.

Keep spraying and lifting coffee out of the stain until it disappears. There will be a wet spot on your carpet for a few days. If the stain returns, clean it again, possibly with a different carpet safe cleaner.

  5. Step 5

Never use hot water or a hair dryer on a stain.

Heat makes dye (whether coffee or fabric dye) bond to a surface. If you heat the stain, you'll cause it to bond to the fibers of the carpet.
