Step 1
Call the press and write articles to get the attention of the community. Let community members know what the shelter is in need of and how they can help. Some individuals may not have extra money to give the shelter but are willing to volunteer a few hours a week cleaning or taking care of the animals. Make sure to show a picture of a sheltered animal with press releases, this helps people connect with the cause.
-
Step 2
Leave fliers at various veterinary clinics, kennels, pet retail outlets, and other animal related business'. Let them know you are there and need funds to help keep the doors open. Talk to the various business' about sponsoring the no kill animal shelter.
-
Step 3
Research animal activist groups that fund grants to improve life's of animals. You can find a list of groups that offer forms of assistants at AnimalConcerns.org.
-
Step 4
Network with other non-profit organizations that hold fundraisers and awareness for a variety of causes. For example organizations such as Boy and Girl scouts, Cub Scouts, and 4H clubs are groups that may have interest in raising funds for a no kill animal shelter.
-
Step 5
Contact manufactures of animal products such a dog food or grain for horses located within a hundred miles of the shelter to disuse sponsoring your cause.

on 11/20/2008 This is great and thanks. I hate to see little animals on the side of the road or wondering around because I know that those little guys have no future ahead of themselves. If only we could shelter every animal that we see that is stranded to save them from being put down, that would be great. Thanks for the advice! 5 *****
