Things You'll Need:
- one basket (or more) of unmated socks
- a sofa, table or floor for your work area
-
Step 1
First of all, do not start this project until you have at least half an hour to devote to it so you can finish. The process can get messy, and you don't want to leave socks everywhere!
-
Step 2
Set the basket of socks near you (don't dump it out), and take out one sock at a time. Start a spot in your work area for each person in your family, or you can just separate boy socks from girl socks, children's socks from adult socks, colors from whites, whatever works for your family.
-
Step 3
As you pull out each sock and put it in its spot, you will encounter its mate. Fold them together and put them in the appropriate piles as you go.
-
Step 4
When you have taken the last sock out of the basket, you will have mated all of the socks that have mates. Now gather the "divorced" socks. Are they worth keeping? Throw away the worn-out ones, and the ones that have been mateless for years and are just hanging out in your laundry basket. These are socks - you won't hurt their feelings!
-
Step 5
Unmated socks that you have recently seen paired have some hope of seeing their mates again. Place them in a ziplock bag to be matched later when more clean socks come through the laundry. Now you can reclaim your laundry basket!
