Step 1
PAY WITH CASH
Some gas stations charge as much as 14 cents more per gallon for those who pay with a credit card. Every time someone pays with a credit card, the gas station has to pay a fee. To offset this fee, some gas stations raise the price of gas for those who pay with credit. -
Step 2
FILL UP AT THE GROCERY STORE
Some grocery stores (such as Kroger) have gas stations in their parking lots. When you buy groceries and they scan your customer card, you get to save usually up to 10 cents a gallon on your gas. -
Step 3
CHECK ONLINE BEFORE YOU LEAVE
By searching websites such as gaspricewatch.com you can see the cheapest place in your area to buy gas before you even leave. -
Step 4
RUN, WALK, BIKE
Instead of driving a mile or two to the library, post office, or store, how about riding your bike or walking instead? By wearing a backpack or attaching a cargo rack to the back of your bike, you can carry a bag of groceries, mail, etc. Not to mention, you'll get great exercise and some fresh air! -
Step 5
SLOW DOWN AND USE YOUR CRUISE CONTROL
By going under 60 mph and setting the cruise, you can save over 30% in fuel economy. -
Step 6
CHECK YOUR VEHICLE
Make sure your tires are properly inflated. Install a new air filter if needed. Basically, make sure your car is in good running condition and you'll save more on gas.
