1
Measure the circumference of the child's head, about 1 inch above the ears. Lay the cardstock or poster board on your working surface and draw a line across the bottom of the paper that measures the circumference of the child's head plus about 1 inch.
-
2
Measure up from the bottom line about 6 inches and make a small mark. This is the very top of the crown.
-
-
3
Measure down from the mark about 1/2-inch and make another small mark. Draw a zigzag pattern across the length of the crown, letting no part of the pattern extend beyond the second 1/2-inch mark.
-
4
Place a penny at the top of each point of the zigzag pattern. Trace around each penny. This makes the top jewels for the crown.
-
5
Cut out the shape for the crown, cutting around the penny shapes as you work.
-
6
Place the crown shape on some old newspaper in a well-ventilated area. Spray the entire front and back of the crown with a thick layer of silver or gold metallic spraypaint. Let the paint dry according to the manufacturer's instructions.
-
7
Decorate the crown. Glue small imitation gemstones at random places along the crown. Glue one large imitation gemstone onto of each of the circles you created with the pennies at the top of the crown.
-
8
Bring the short ends of the crown together and overlap them by about 1/2 inch. Apply a layer of glue to one edge and press it against the underside of the adjoining edge. Let the glue dry for about 30 minutes before wearing the crown.
