Is your baby crying inconsolably? It could be gas! Learn a few techniques on how to burp your baby.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Your Baby
  • Yourself
  1. Step 1

Gather your baby in your arms - belly to belly.

  2. Step 2

Place your baby's belly on your shoulder so that pressure is applied to help release the gas.

  3. Step 3

Hold your baby's bottom with one arm and use the other as your "burping arm".

  4. Step 4

Using the lower palm of your hand, begin to pat the middle of your baby's back until you hear a belch.

  5. Step 5

Burping your baby should not take more than 5 minutes. If you've been patting your baby's back for longer than that and (s)he is not crying, fussing, or twisting his/her body, then you simply may not have heard the burp.

Tips & Warnings
  • Gripe water is an EXCELLENT remedy for gas, hiccups, colic, and teething.
  • If your baby does not stop crying and you still cannot figure out what is wrong, do NOT hesitate to call your pediatrician.
