Maybe you don't want the hassles of an alarm system, or you can't afford one. Here's how to improve your home security without an alarm.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Deadbolt locks
  • Eye hole for the front door
  • Chain locks
  • Motion detector lights
  • Interior light timers
  • Car in the driveway
  • "Protected by" Stickers
  1. Step 1

Make sure every exterior door has a deadbolt lock.

  2. Step 2

Install a safety chain or slider on the front door.

  3. Step 3

Install an eye hole in the front door if it doesn't already have one.

  4. Step 4

Put motion sensor lights on your front and back porch.

  5. Step 5

Buy interior light timers if you leave the house alone for long periods of time. These turn on the interior lights at random times after dark.

  6. Step 6

Leave a car in the driveway to signal that someone is at home when you are away.

  7. Step 7

If you have a family member who installed an alarm, ask for one of their "Protected By" stickers. Put it on or near your front door.
